David Sterry OBE - Chief Executive
David, a chartered civil engineer with 37 years experience in the construction industry, has been Chief Executive of May Gurney for six years, having led an MBO of the business in 2001. As well as overall strategic responsibility for the company, David has Board responsibility for human resources and health & safety. David was awarded an OBE in 2005 for services to civil engineering specifically in the areas of partnering and innovation.

Richard Dean - Chief Operating Officer
Richard, a chartered civil engineer with 26 years experience in infrastructure services - including road, rail and utilities - formerly worked at Morrison. Richard has been instrumental in May Gurney's approach to partnering with customers and implementing its initiatives in supply chain management. Richard is responsible for the operational and commercial performance of May Gurney's primary business segments. |
Philip Fellowes-Prynne - Chief Operating Officer
Philip, who took up his new position on 14 April 2008, has a wealth of experience in the infrastructure and waste support services sectors – at senior and board level. Until recently he was Chief Executive of Accord plc, where he was involved with a successful strategic highways JV with Mouchel plc. Philip will take over from Richard Dean (above), who has indicated for some time his intention to move on after eight successful years. Richard will stay on until the AGM in July 2008 to ensure a smooth handover. |
Michael Dunn - Group Finance Director
Michael, a chartered accountant, joined May Gurney in 2004. Previously he had been Finance Director of Carillion Building and Carillion Private Finance. Michael began his career at Coopers & Lybrand following a BSc in economics and accounting. Michael has overall control of the strategic development and management of finance and information systems. |
Ian Findlater - Group Business Development Director
Ian Findlater, a law graduate and a chartered surveyor, worked for 18 years at Tarmac where he was responsible for a range of mineral-related business activities across the UK. He joined May Gurney in 2001 and is responsible for the company's sales and marketing strategy; partnerships and joint ventures; customer relationship management; market intelligence; plant & transport; and Ayton Products. Ian also leads on the company's environmental and waste management initiatives. |
Tim Ross - Non Executive Chairman
Tim, a solicitor and former main board director of George Wimpey plc, became Non Executive Chairman of May Gurney in January 2005 following his original appointment to the Board in 2002. Tim is also Chairman of Hargreaves Services plc, Deputy Chairman of Connaught plc, and a Non Executive Director of Ennstone plc, Lavendon Group plc and other private companies.

David Galloway - Non Executive Director
David is a chartered accountant with extensive experience of working in the services sector. He was a main board Director of RAC plc and became a Non Executive Director of May Gurney in 2002. He is also a Non Executive Director of Speedy Hire plc, Carter & Carter plc and Accident Exchange plc.

Allyson Ablett - Company Secretary
Allyson is a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and the International Secretaries Group. She qualified as a legal secretary over 25 years ago and has extensive knowledge of corporate law, share schemes, insurance and pensions. She joined May Gurney in 2002 having previously worked at Archant Limited and Norwich Union plc.

Gavin Scarr Hall - Managing Director, Utility Services
Gavin graduated from the University of South Bank with a BEng (Hons) in Environmental Engineering, before going on to complete a MBA at Durham University. He then spent 16 years in asset management, construction and outsourcing, before joining Laing O'Rourke, where he worked in construction and utilities, and developed the company's European strategy. He joined May Gurney in November 2007.

Peter Batts - Managing Director, Highway Services
Peter is a chartered engineer with over 37 years experience in the services industry, both in the public and private sector. The majority of Peter's experience has been within the highway maintenance industry, working on term maintenance contracts for local authorities and the Highways Agency, including MAC contracts. He has been with May Gurney since June 2003. |
Tim Read - Director of Corporate Development
Tim Read is a certified accountant and a graduate of the Harvard Business School. He has 24 years experience in the utility sector and was formerly the Managing Director of T J Brent Ltd, where he led the Management Buy-Out from the Pennon Group plc in 2000. Tim is responsible for May Gurney's acquisition strategy, including the identification, negotiation and successful integration of acquired businesses.

Brenda Handley-Howorth
- Director of Human Resources
Brenda has worked in human resource management for 17 years and is chartered
fellow of The Institute of Personnel & Development. Her experience in both
the private and public sectors includes spells in manufacturing with the
Campbell Soup Company, and the printing and warehousing operation at The
Stationery Office (formerly HMSO). Brenda joined May Gurney in 2003 and is
responsible for corporate HR. |
